Positive Training

Picture
At Dapper Dog Training we love our dogs and take training seriously. Positive reinforcement ensures that you and your dog build a long-lasting relationship-one that is unconditionally loving, and at the same time civil and controlled. Both ends of the leash get the respect they deserve, teaching owners to train and dogs to enjoy it. From puppies to adult dogs, and obedience and tricks to behavioral training, we will help you make sure you can achieve this balance and learn how to get your dog excited to participate!

Dapper Dog Training will be giving lectures for family and adults on Puppy Preparation, After You Get Your Puppy, Dominance and Dog Training, and Child Safety at  Jefferson Market New York Public Library  , as well as various other NYC locations. And, all of the pups you see on this site are personal friends of ours!

Success & Progress !

Picture
Lulu and Elmo started out just like any other inter-species family that has a German Shepherd and a cat. German Shepherds were bred to keep a flock within a given area by patrolling its boundary but also to drive to new pastures. So it follows that they have a highly developed chasing instinct - which can be switched on either by movement or lack thereof.

Enter Lulu and Elmo. Elmo is used to another, older German Shepherd Dog who does not chase him or fight back when he paws at the dog and runs away (tricky little fellow!).  But when Elmo chooses to instigate Lulu, a younger more driven dog, Lulu instigates back!

Lulu and Elmo have been undergoing a training program that allows their owner to train them how to interact appropriately. They are still in the process of the training, and as you can see, Elmo the cat still chooses to rest above Lulu's resting place. Their owner was encouraged by their more peaceful existence and sent along a picture of their progress. I am so proud of them!
